At the session of the legislative body, the acting head of the PAG, Nicolae Ormanji, said that the Gagauz deputies demand from the authorities of Gagauzia “to stop canceling through the State Chancellery the decrees (on holding elections – ed.) and to give the right to the people of Gagauzia to elect the eighth convocation, so that it would be legitimate” (quote from gagauzinfo.md).
He also said that the PAG appealed to Turkey for help in resolving the conflict with the Moldovan authorities. “Over the weekend we appealed directly to the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan to accept us. Turkey has been lending a shoulder for 35 years. According to our information this letter has reached him. We are waiting for a response and are ready to go and discuss. We hope Turkey will help diplomatically to overcome our political crisis,” Ormanji said.
Before the PAG session the meeting of the mayors of the autonomy with the deputy corps took place. In the Declaration on holding the next elections to the People’s Assembly, adopted as a result of the meeting, it is noted the importance of organizing and holding the elections in strict compliance with the legislation in force, the principles of transparency, legality and equal access for all participants of the electoral process. Free expression of will of citizens should be guaranteed at all stages.
“We consider it necessary for all parties to sit down at the negotiating table and work out an agreed roadmap to overcome the current situation, which will be acceptable both for the central authorities of Moldova and Gagauzia, and, what is especially important, will ensure the preservation of peace and stability in the society,” the Declaration says.
The mayors of the autonomous unit declared their readiness to contribute to this process and to participate in all its stages within the limits of their authority.
