Vladimir Plahotniuc was not present at the announcement of the verdict. The court ruling can be appealed against.

The main accusation against the oligarch is related to participation in the “theft of a billion” from the Moldovan banking system. Although in 2019, the country’s Parliament adopted resolutions “on the captured state”, where Plahotniuc also appeared as the main “beneficiary”.

The scandalous oligarch was detained and extradited from Greece in September 2025. The prosecution demanded 25 years in prison, but the court limited it to 19 years.

Plahotniuc did not admit his guilt and repeatedly stated that the criminal prosecution had political overtones.
