This is the lowest monthly level of sunflower oil exports for the season. The situation directly reflects the depletion of raw materials available for domestic processing. Traders have already bought up most of the 2025 sunflower crop and exported it as raw material. While local processors are left with small stocks.
“Monthly dynamics of sunflower oil exports from Moldova in the current season shows the instability of the process: in October-December 2025 and January 2026, external supplies of the commodity fluctuated between 12-19 thousand tons per month,” notes Iurie Rija, an expert in agro-marketing, “then there is a sharp decline. The sudden stagnation in the spring indicates the vulnerability of the local oilseed processing industry, its inability to compete with traders for volumes at market prices during the peak months of international demand for sunflower”.
During the eight months of the current season (July 2025-March 2026), Moldova exported 67.5 thousand tons of sunflower oil – almost four times more than the previous, extremely weak, season – 17.7 thousand tons.
The average export price of Moldovan sunflower oil in 2025-26 amounted to 22.2 lei/kg – slightly lower than last season (22.8 lei/kg). During the mentioned period of the current season, Moldova’s revenue from sunflower exports amounted to 1.5 billion lei – almost four times more than in the same period of the last season.
