
After approval by the Cabinet of Ministers, the document will be submitted to the Parliament for adoption in two readings. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will notify the CIS Executive Committee of the decision.
The agreement was signed in Minsk in 1993. The document stipulated not only the sharing of railcars, but also their joint use, mutual settlements and coordination through interstate bodies. According to the annex to the agreement, Moldova was allocated 12,979 freight cars. The largest volume of rolling stock was assigned to Russia – 963,378 railcars, Ukraine – 278,665 and Kazakhstan – 109,072.
By 2024, the number of freight cars in Moldova decreased to about 4.5 thousand. The administration of SE “Railways of Moldova” systematically announces the sale and decommissioning of rolling stock.
The new auction will be held on April 28 and 29, 2026. The company announced the sale of 21 locomotives. Also, 17 sections of refrigerated cars are put up for auction.
It should be noted that, as of today, out of 283 agreements within the CIS, 71 have already been denounced by Moldova, while about 60 are under consideration.
