Romanian citizenship becomes a question mark

The Romanian portal spynews.ro published a picture of a test that some of the applicants posted on Facebook.

The reactions were quite unexpected when people saw how long the list of questions turned out to be, as well as what kind of questions it contained.

Indeed, some of the questions require in-depth knowledge of both Romanian culture and the country’s traditions and customs.

The post garnered many likes, but also more than 600 comments in which Romanians ridiculed the test prepared by the National Directorate of Citizenship.

“I don’t deserve Romanian citizenship,” one comment read.

“Under stress, I won’t even answer half of it,” wrote another person.

What kind of questions are these

Here are a few of the test questions.

– name three Romanian directors;

– who is Emil Cioran;

– what you know about the Bucharest Bible (1688);

– what you know about the “Brancoveanu style”;

– who Karol Davila was.

And a number of other rather difficult tasks. By the way, the Moldovan authorities have not yet thought of introducing such a test.

What other conditions need to be met

A number of criteria must be met in order to obtain Romanian citizenship. These include:

– you must have lived in Romania for at least 8 years;

– if you are married, you must have lived in Romania for at least 5 years;

– you must be at least 18 years old;

– you must have no criminal record;

– you must know the Romanian language, have knowledge of the culture, history and geography of Romania, and be familiar with the provisions of the Constitution.

These are just some of the requirements that a person must meet in order to obtain Romanian citizenship.

There is an important aspect that the Romanian portal forgot to mention. Most Moldovan citizens do not obtain citizenship, but “restore” it. To do so, one has to present documents that their ancestors lived in Moldova under the Romanians.
