The army is deployed to treat sidewalks with de-icing materials and sand. Priority is given to areas near hospitals, entrances to underpasses, areas near churches and other high-traffic areas where the risk of falling on slippery surfaces is particularly high.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu said that about 40 tons of anti-icing material have been prepared and will be distributed to the most important areas of the city. The works are carried out in coordination with the police, carabinieri, rescue services, as well as with the State Inspectorate for Emergency Situations.

Joint efforts

Chisinau Mayor General Ion Ceban, who had earlier asked the central authorities to bring out the army to help, expressed hope that “on Saturday, on Sunday and, if necessary, throughout the week, we will work together.”

The Defense Ministry says National Army units are deployed in several neighborhoods in the capital and are clearing sidewalks, sprinkling surfaces with de-icing materials and providing access to public, social and medical facilities. The soldiers of the “Moldova” motorized infantry brigade are ready to support the local public authorities in the municipality of Balti. The army’s engineering units are also involved in assisting local public authorities.

The Energy Ministry reports that the national energy system is working in a planned mode as of Saturday morning. At the same time, 3,063 consumers remain without power supply: 2,425 in the Premier Energy Distribution service area and 638 in the RED-Nord area.

The police inform that the movement of heavy vehicles and buses has been resumed with the observance of safety measures.

The Ministry of Education and Research has informed gymnasiums and schools that due to unfavorable weather conditions, the district, municipal and zonal Olympiads scheduled for February 7-8 have been postponed to February 12-13, 2026.
