Apple Faces Memory Chip Shortage

US technology company Apple will prioritize production of flagship models of new iPhones in 2026 instead of base models due to a change in marketing strategy and supply chain constraints amid a global shortage of memory chips, according to Logos Press.

The company will focus on releasing its first-ever foldable iPhone and two non-foldable iPhone 18 models with updated cameras and larger displays in the second half of 2026, Reuters writes . Whereas the release of the base models will be delayed until the first half of 2027.

The move is aimed at optimizing resources and maximizing revenues and profits from premium devices amid rising costs of memory chips and materials, as well as minimizing production risks, Reuters notes.
