Ambassador to the United States Vlad Kulminski said that Moldova will try to do its best to have the tariffs on Moldovan exports to the United States reduced from 25 percent to a maximum of 15 percent.

Culminschi said he had “reconstructed the whole history” of the tariff issue and now confidently states: this is not a political signal.

“I know completely and exactly what happened to us in 2024, which was the benchmark year for taxing the exports of all countries. Our exports have grown, there are many technicalities that I don’t want to go into because it’s technically interesting but at the same time it can even be boring. But this is by no means a political signal,” Vladislav Kulminski said.

At the same time, he noted that no other country has a tariff below 15%: “Other countries have higher tariffs.

He also assured that Moldova is actively attracting American investments. Several investors from the USA are planned to be attracted in the coming months.

“I cannot make specific announcements now, but in the near future, we will move in this direction and you will hear a lot of interesting things. We are talking about different spheres – IT, logistics, energy and others. We are working on big projects and ideas, creating opportunities for U.S. companies so that they are beneficial to those companies. They come not for support or, say, world democratic values, but for investment and profit, which is quite normal. This is a pragmatic business approach, and we must skillfully create and explain these opportunities,” the Ambassador said.

At the same time, he said that in the context of Ukraine’s recovery, this issue is discussed especially actively with the American partners, who understand Moldova’s advantages and know how to use them effectively.

As for the diplomatic field, the ambassador emphasized that the fact that the USA has not yet appointed a permanent ambassador in Chisinau is “a purely procedural issue and not a political signal”. According to him, there is an interim who is a highly professional person, well connected with the political circles of the country.

“The appointment process is going on. We will see when it will be finalized. But we must realize that a similar situation is happening in many countries in the region and even in the world. The process is taking some time as all US attention is now focused on domestic politics,” the ambassador said.
