Bad weather caused power supply difficulties

Due to severe weather conditions on January 27, 2026, characterized by frost and icing, the normal operation of power distribution networks in several regions of the country was disrupted, Logos Press reported citing the Ministry of Energy.

In this regard, at 06:45, the distribution system operator (DSO) ÎCS “Premier Energy Distribution” SA (central-south region) reported 12 partially affected localities, the total number of affected consumers of the system amounted to 4457 people, with 363 notifications received/registered. Most of the affected consumers (3,428 people) live in the Criuleni district (localities Molovata; Riscova; Ochrincha; Stetcani; Oksentia; Mickleşti; Bolohan; Markauti).

At the same time, at 5:00, OSD SA “RED-Nord” (Northern Zone) reported unscheduled power cuts lasting more than 3 minutes, totaling 16,408 consumers. On January 26, 2025, between 18:00 and 20:00, 9,181 consumers were disconnected from power supply.

Damages were recorded in the power grids, mainly caused by frost and fallen trees, namely: on the 10 kV transmission line, Unchitesti village, Floresti district: broken wires and bent sleepers; on the 10 kV transmission line, Cotiușeni village, Cuselauca village, Cuselovca village, Soldanesti district: 15 poles fell to the ground, including fallen wires and broken wires in some sections.

In the power transmission networks operated by the state enterprise “Moldelectrica”, on January 26, 2026, at 21:25, as a result of network damage (in adverse weather conditions, with frost formation and mechanical stress on conductors), several 10 kV feeders at branch level (Northern, North-Western and Central), as well as some 110 kV overhead lines (including connections in Dubasari district and other lines) were disconnected.
