
The acceleration of joint projects between Moldova and Romania was discussed at a meeting between Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea and the State Secretary of the Romanian Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Irinel Ionel Scriosteanu. The sides discussed priority areas of cooperation in the infrastructure sector, as well as the creation of more favorable conditions for the movement of goods and passengers.
The discussions focused on a new approach to the Moldovan-Romanian cooperation in the transport infrastructure sector, with an emphasis on joint projects that will strengthen the transport connection between the two states and bring Moldova closer to the European transport network.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea said that Moldova’s full integration into the European transport corridors will stimulate the country’s exports and economic development.
The sides also discussed the launch of works on the first electrified railroad section on the Iasi-Ungheni segment and the Romanian authorities’ support for the elaboration of a feasibility study on the construction of a European gauge from Ungheni to Chisinau.
In the field of road infrastructure, the sides discussed the commissioning of a bridge over the Prut River in the fall of 2026. The development of border infrastructure was also discussed, with a focus on joint modernization of border crossing points and transport infrastructure in order to optimize traffic and reduce waiting times.
They also talked about the need for joint efforts to deepen the navigable channel of the Prut River in order to create conditions for the resumption of river cargo transportation and utilization of the logistical potential of the coastal regions.
The discussions also focused on Romania’s support for Moldova’s integration into the European initiatives on financing and ensuring the transport infrastructure. In particular, the Action for Safe Europe (SAFE) instrument, which will contribute to facilitating the republic’s interconnection with the European space.
