Wine production in Moldova to grow – OIV

This forecast is contained in the world survey of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV).

“In 2025, wine production in Moldova is estimated at around 1.4 million hectoliters, 18% more than in 2024 and slightly above the five-year average (+3%). The recovery is mainly due to favorable weather conditions in the spring: abundant rainfall improved soil moisture and promoted grape development. This is in stark contrast to the severe water deficit and late frosts that negatively affected the 2024 crop,” the report says.

Overall, global wine production rose slightly this year but remained below average for the third consecutive year as vineyards faced extreme and unstable weather conditions, the document said.

According to preliminary data, the OIV estimated global wine production this year at 232 million hectoliters (mgl), up 3% from 2024 but still 7% below the five-year average.

According to the OIV statement, Italy will remain the world’s largest wine producer in 2025 (47.3 million hectoliters), ahead of France (35.9 million hectoliters) and Spain (29.4 million hectoliters). The United States ranks fourth, while Australia, recovering from a weaker 2024 vintage, will regain the world’s fifth place in wine production in 2025, ahead of Argentina, which ranks sixth and is the largest producer in South America.
