According to Moldova Fruct Association, in October last year external supplies of these fruits were more modest – about 5 thousand tons. Export of Moldovan apples in September of the current year was also lower than last month – slightly more than 6 thousand tons.
The October growth of apple exports, though not too big, is of interest in the context of two circumstances. The first is the exporters’ reports about the problem of too slow traffic of perishable goods across the border between Moldova and Romania due to administrative reasons. Second – stable and rather high (about 1-2 lei/kg higher compared to the same month last year) wholesale prices for apples in Moldova throughout October.
Also it should be taken into account that in October Moldova Fruct’s very cautious forecast of apple harvest-2025 – about 278 thousand tons – was actual. However, last month the observations of the country’s fruit market operators were in favor of a larger harvest. In early November, the Moldova Fruct Association adjusted the forecast upward to the last year’s level (407 thousand tons).
