NCFM launched an investigation into the launch of “the first Moldovan cryptocurrency”

The investigation was initiated after the company held a press conference where it announced the launch of the Double Case Token crypto coin.

“Given the public nature of the announcement, as well as the fact that the offer is addressed to the general public (non-specialists), NCFM has initiated an investigation within its competence to assess the legal qualification of the announced actions and the available publicly available information on the matter. Upon completion of the investigation, NCFM will provide additional information and, if necessary, take the necessary measures,” reads the press release issued by NCFM.

The authority also specifies that, in accordance with the provisions of Law 308/2017 on preventing and combating money laundering and terrorism financing, the provision of services related to virtual assets is prohibited on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

According to the same legal provisions, financial and banking institutions have no right to allow residents to conduct transactions with cryptocurrency service providers authorized in other states, the aggregate volume of which exceeds the equivalent of 50 thousand lei per month.
