Indian students increasingly choose Moldova

This is 376 more than in the previous academic year. Most of the new students came from India. This country has the leading position and the greatest potential to attract students to Moldova. Thanks to the state campaign to promote Moldovan universities abroad and investments in internationalization – more than 1 million euros allocated by the World Bank – Moldova records an unprecedented increase in the interest of foreign students in the national higher education system.

Most of them chose the Technical University of Moldova, where 273 foreign students are studying this year. The Nicolae Testemitanu University of Medicine and Pharmacy received 300 students from India, Israel, France, Morocco, Belgium, Finland and other countries. Ion Creanga State Pedagogical University admitted 279 students, mostly from Romania and Ukraine. The State University of Moldova and the Academy of Economic Knowledge enrolled 161 and 100 foreign students, respectively.

In the 2025-2026 academic year, the tuition fee for all programs of the Technical University of Moldova for foreign students is about 2,000 euros per year.

For international students at the Nicolae Testemitanu University of Medicine and Pharmacy, tuition fees range from 3,150 euros per year (e.g., public health and master’s programs) to 7,800 euros per year (dental residency).

The price does not include visa, accommodation and other extras.

At the undergraduate level, the most popular majors are medicine, educational sciences, veterinary medicine, translation, business and administration, and animation. At the master’s level, Ion Creanga University was the most popular, with more than 170 students pursuing programs in pedagogy, psychology and animation.

According to Adriana Cazacu, State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Research, the growing number of foreign students at Moldovan universities testifies to the increasing international attractiveness of Moldovan higher education. To further strengthen the position of Moldovan universities abroad, more than 280 teachers have taken advanced training courses in English to teach in international programs.

As Logos Press previously reported, more than 1 million euros were allocated to develop new English-language teaching programs to attract foreign students to Moldova within a project financed by the World Bank. These funds are aimed at internationalizing curricula, improving the qualifications of teachers and creating modern conditions for teaching foreign students.
