The week started with a gymnastics flash mob held in all primary and secondary general education institutions in the country. The main event took place at the Government House, where 70 employees from various agencies, including the Ministry of Education and Research, which oversees the project, joined the flash mob.

The next day, October 1, a sports village will open in the village of Nimoreni, Ialoveni district, where competitions in 13 sports, including table tennis and soccer, will be held. A day later, on October 2, the forest near Calarasi will host interactive orienteering games. The organizers guarantee the safety of children during the event.

At the Institute of Physical Education and Sports at the State University, methodical classes with the participation of athletes with disabilities are scheduled for October 3. On the same day, master classes in extreme sports will be held at Arena Chișinău. They will be organized by the Moldovan Roller Sports Federation and partners.

The week will end in the center of Chisinau at the Europe Café with a grand Gala, during which the winners of the BeActive Awards will be honored for their significant contribution to the promotion of physical activity, healthy lifestyles and the elimination of barriers to sport.

Veaceslav Gojan, bronze medalist of the 2008 Olympic Games, European boxing champion (2011), became the ambassador of the European Sports Week in Moldova. “Sport for me consisted not only in competitions, but also in the possibility to be more disciplined and even more balanced in the boxing ring,” emphasized the master of sports of international class.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Education Sergiu Gurin said that simple actions such as running and walking directly contribute to health and well-being, and involving youth and adults in regular sports activities is an investment in the future.

This year’s European Sports Week coincides with the 10th anniversary of the European Commission’s launch of an initiative aimed at promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles.

The Ministry of Education and Research is confident that the events taking place during the week will bring together all primary, secondary, higher education institutions and local communities across the country and will not only be a celebration of movement, but also an important opportunity to recall the fundamental values of sport – solidarity, fair play, respect and perseverance.
