Lilian Popescu
As head coach of the national team, Lilian Popescu receives a salary of €3,000 per month, not including additional bonuses. According to the FMF president, the same salary was received by his predecessor Sergei Kleshchenko. “This is the largest salary among all employees of the federation. I get less,” Oleynichenko told the video podcast “Culisele Arenelor” (“Behind the scenes of the arena”), produced by the former head of the FMF press office, Alexander Grecu.
In the case of a win or a draw, the head of the coaching staff and the players are entitled to bonuses. Thus, for a win the coach and each player of the national team can count on € 3 thousand, for a draw – on € 1.5 thousand. FMF President noted that in the League of Nations last year the amount of bonuses was lower due to the fact that the “tricolor” met with weaker opponents.
Lilian Popescu was appointed head coach of the Moldovan national team on September 16 after Serghei Clesenco resigned on September 11. In the current European qualifying cycle for the European Championship, the national team suffered five defeats in five matches, including the biggest in its history – from Norway (1:11). Popescu will make his debut at his new post in a friendly against Romania, which will be held on October 9 in Bucharest.
