Canneries are close to finalizing the purchase of plums

As the heads of the largest enterprises of the industry note in this regard, in the short term they could double the production plan – and fulfill it. The only limiting factor is whether canning factories in Moldova will be able to find buyers for the unscheduled large volume of plum processing products within a reasonable period of time.

Earlier Logos Press reported that canning factories pay farmers 4-5 lei/kg for plums, which is not bad – last year the wholesale price for this raw material was 2.5-3 lei/kg. The growth of prices for plum – both for the “fresh market” and for industrial processing – this season is due to a fortunate coincidence of two factors. The first one is high demand for plums in European countries, as many of them lost significant shares of plum crop due to spring frosts. The second – unexpectedly good plum harvest in Moldova, which experts estimate at the moment in the range of 80-90 thousand tons.
