According to the staff of the Association of Grain Producers and Exporters Agrocereale, the main contribution to the projected maize production will be made by producers in the northern zone of the country, where, due to the relatively higher amount of precipitation and more gentle summer temperatures, the average yield of this crop may reach 4 t/ha. Whereas in the central regions the yield in most farms is unlikely to exceed 2-2.5 t/ha, and in the south of Moldova – only 1-1.5 t/ha.
In the country as a whole, the average maize yield this year will be close to the level of 3 t/ha (in 2024 – 3.3 t/ha). According to the estimation of Iurie Rizhi, Chairman of Agrocereale, an expert in the field of agro-marketing, the 2025 corn harvest in Moldova will be about 9% lower than the average in the last decade.
The harvesting of commercial corn in the south of the country will start at the end of the first decade of September, if the weather remains dry and hot until then.
