Moldova to become world epicenter of sparkling wines

From September 3 to 5, 2025, Moldova will host for the first time the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, one of the most prestigious international wine competitions. This event, dedicated exclusively to sparkling wines, will turn our country into the most important platform of the world wine community and a prominent destination on the map of wine tourism.

“Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is an international level wine competition designed to provide consumers around the world with reliable information about quality wines. It also supports wine producers seeking to export and strengthen their presence in foreign markets. For Moldovan winemakers, this event represents a strategic platform for recognition and promotion in new export markets. Holding the competition in Chisinau is a recognition of the maturity and quality of Moldovan wine, as well as a confirmation that it has its rightful place in the international wine world. At the beginning of autumn, we will experience a moment of national pride and a unique opportunity to position Moldova as an important center of winemaking in Eastern Europe”, explained Stefan Yamandi, Director of the National Bureau of Grapes and Wine.

It should be noted that this autumn about 45 international tasters – sommeliers, journalists, specialized bloggers and recognized experts – will come to Moldova. They will blindly analyze more than 1000 sparkling wines from famous wine regions. The jury will also include Moldovan experts with wine tasting experience.

During three days, the jury members will taste the wines and the results and medals will confirm the competitiveness of the recognized producers. During this period, guests will be able to visit several wineries across the country – Castel Mimi, Purcari, Cricova, Mileștii Mici, Mircești, EtCetera, Chateau Vartely and Rădăcini – where they will be offered master classes on wine selection and tours of tourist complexes.

About the competition:

Concours Mondial de Bruxelles has a history of more than thirty years and it is not only held in Belgium. In recent years, it has been hosted by more than 20 countries with winemaking potential. The competition includes tastings of registered wines and only about 30% of them receive awards, which confirms the value of the medals and diplomas awarded. The evaluation process is rigorous. In this process, only quality is of paramount importance.

The awards received at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles are recognized internationally and can influence the decisions of consumers around the world.
