This is the second district in which the local authorities have taken such a decision. Stefan Voda was the first to request a state of emergency two weeks ago. Meanwhile, the unbearably hot weather in Moldova still persists. The administrations of some other districts in the south of Moldova are also close to requesting the central authorities of the country to introduce a local state of emergency.
Precipitation in the region is still 60-70% less than the multiyear norm. Extremely high air temperature further worsens the condition of crops of the second group. Probably, losses of corn and sunflower harvest in some districts of southern Moldova will amount to 80-90%.
The Forța Fermierilor activist, in a media report, points out the aggravating circumstance that “the difficult situation in agriculture is observed for the fourth year in a row, and it is unprecedented in the modern history of the Republic of Moldova”.
