Chisinau became the capital of European triathlon for one day

European competitions of junior triathletes in Chisinau have become a good tradition

The winner of the European Cup among juniors was the representative of Estonia Eva-Maria Albert (see the results of the medalists in the table), among the boys the best time was shown by Sebastian Zikman from Luxembourg. The winners of the mixed relay, in which a pair of girls and boys from each national team took part, were triathletes from Romania. Two Moldovan athletes took part in the competition – Cristian Vasilake and Ivan Bostan.

Chisinau hosted the European Junior Triathlon Cup stage for the fourth consecutive year. The European Triathlon Union (ETU) honored Moldova with the honor of hosting such a high-level event every year, after the inspectors highly appreciated the level of infrastructure in the “La Izvor” park and the compliance of the course with international standards. According to the ETU representatives, the level of organization of competitions by the Triathlon Federation of Moldova is comparable to the European Cup stage held in Tiszaujvaros (Hungary) and even the World Cup stages in Holten (Netherlands) and Wels (Austria).

The partner of the event is the Chisinau City Hall. “I am happy that our city is hosting one of the most important junior sports tournaments. The event strengthens the status of Chisinau as a city hosting international competitions and promoting active and healthy lifestyle among young people,” said Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban.

Athletes competed in three disciplines that make up the triathlon – swimming (400 m freestyle), cycling (10.2 km) and running (2.4 km). In the mixed relay, each of the four competitors covered shorter distances – a 200-meter swim, a 5.2 km bike race and a 1.5 km run. The athlete’s result also takes into account the time he/she spent on two technical shifts (transition from one stage to another).

The European Triathlon Cup stage in Chisinau was the last preparatory tournament for juniors before the European Championship, which will be held on July 19-20 in Melilla (Spain). The championship will include competitions among adults, youth (U-23) and juniors (U-19). Moldovan athletes did not qualify for the tournament.
