The construction of the new building of the Cahul Drama Theater named after B. P. Hasdeu started back in 2014. The project was initiated after the signing of a memorandum between Moldova and Romania, whose government provided funding of 800 thousand euros in the form of a grant.
The construction of the theater was planned to be completed back in 2016, but the works were delayed and suspended from 2019. As of 2017, the readiness of the facility was estimated at 50%.
To obtain funding to complete the work, the Southern Regional Development Agency, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and the B.P. Hashdeu Republican Drama Theater, submitted an application to the 2025 Urban Development Regional Development Project Competition. In order to complete the construction of the theater, it is necessary to carry out an expert examination of the scope of work already performed, to re-develop specifications for the remaining stages. It is also necessary to initiate public procurement procedures for construction works and contracting of technical supervision services.
The estimated cost of the project is 16.2 million lei, of which 90% will be financed from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development (FNDRL) and the rest by the Ministry of Culture.
