The Cabinet of Ministers approved the decision to start negotiations on June 18. The coordinated control will start functioning after the resumption of railroad communication along this route. The conclusion of the agreement will contribute to the security of the state border, reduce waiting times and simplify control procedures. At the same time, the coordinated control will speed up the transit of goods and people, increase the volume of imports and exports, which will contribute to the expansion of economic cooperation.
The resumption of the activity of this border crossing point will make it possible to connect the railway network in the south of the country with the EU space and create corridors of solidarity for Ukraine, the information note to the government’s resolution said.
The Cantemir-Falciu checkpoint will become the third one to be activated within the concept of coordinated control implemented on the Moldovan-Romanian border.
This mechanism implies that the border control on the territory of one state is carried out in two separate stages. It is carried out first by the authorized bodies of the State of exit and then by the State of entry. They carry out their procedures separately, without duplication, but at the same border crossing point, which ensures smooth movement, without the need to move people or vehicles between two different points.
