This directive applies to certain unfair trade practices in connection with the sale of agricultural and food products. The document contains, inter alia, ways of responding to complaints from producer and supplier organizations to protect individual members of such organizations who consider themselves to be affected by unfair trade practices.

“Authorities authorized to crack down on unfair trade practices should be able to take appropriate measures while protecting the consumer rights of the buyer,” said Alexei Gherțescu, Chairman of the Competition Council. “Unfortunately, current legislation is ineffective in preventing situations where large chains abuse their economic power over smaller providers. These changes will provide better protection for small producers and allow the state to intervene to stop unfair relationships”.
