Construction work increased, but not at the expense of housing

The volume of construction works in Moldova increased by 18.7% (in comparable prices) in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, - reports Logos Press.

Construction work increased, but not at the expense of housing

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, capital repairs accounted for the lion’s share of this growth – by 59.7%. In new construction, contracting works increased by 10.0%; in maintenance and current repair – by 8.6%; other construction works (demolition of buildings, development of land for construction, etc.) increased by 17.8%.

As regards construction objects, construction works were more active in the erection of non-residential buildings (in comparable prices the growth amounted to 45.6%) and engineering structures (+18.9%). Other types of works accounted for 17.8% growth. At the same time, the volumes of performed construction works on erection of residential buildings for the analyzed period decreased by 9.8%.

It is indicative that in the first quarter of 2024 as compared to the first quarter of 2023, a decrease in the level of completed construction works was observed in all items, except for maintenance and current repair (+ 37%) and construction of residential buildings (+2%)
