The grant, funded by the European Union through the Neighborhood Investment Platform and managed by CEB, is for preparatory activities. The funds will be used to “develop the concept and technical documentation necessary for the construction of a modern hospital,” the ministry said. Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2028.

The grant agreement gives the Ministry of Health the authority to launch all preparatory stages of the project and opens the next stages of financing into medical infrastructure and specialized equipment. The investment project has been approved under the EU aid of €1.9 billion. Implementation will be carried out by the Project Implementation Unit within the Ministry in partnership with the CEB and the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.

The European investment plan for medical infrastructure also includes the construction of a regional hospital in Cahul. The Ministry of Health believes that this project will be implemented “as part of a broader agenda of economic development and EU integration”.
