Growth pole cities will receive 3.34 billion lei

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, in particular, the authorities will continue supporting the municipalities of Cahul, Comrat, Ungheni, Orhei, Soroca and Edinet in order to turn them into growth pole cities.

The program is aimed at increasing the level of economic development and competitiveness of the 6 cities, so that they become regional growth centers for the neighboring territories. In the coming years, the cities will continue to receive financial assistance for projects aimed at: rehabilitation of road infrastructure and modernization of the urban public transport system; development of economic infrastructure (agri-food markets, multifunctional centers, recreational areas); urban regeneration (sports complexes, public areas); modernization of technical and communal infrastructure (sewage treatment plants, expansion of water supply and sewerage networks, modern street lighting).

The program update resulted from the preparation of the Interim Evaluation Report, which emphasized the need to adjust costs, revise implementation mechanisms, and clarify the responsibilities of the institutions involved in project implementation.

The estimated cost of the National Program in the updated figures will amount to about MDL 3 billion 341.78 million. According to the interim evaluation report, about 1 billion 366 million lei has already been mobilized for 2020-2024, of which: National Fund for Regional and Local Development – MDL 168.4 million; Development Partners – MDL 672.6 million; Local Government – MDL 525.9 million.

Thus, for 2020-2024, about 50% of the expenditures calculated in 2020 (about 42% of the amount of the refined expenditures) have been mobilized.

The total estimated cost is about MDL 3 billion 341.78 million, of which MDL 3 billion 298.08 million is envisaged for priority projects in beneficiary municipalities and MDL 43.7 million for program management.
