“I just love this top and the matching pants!” – Sunny Anderson, co-host of the Drew Barrymore TV show, said on her Instagram page after appearing in front of two and a half million American viewers in a bright pink blouse with puffed sleeves and a pointed collar.

This blouse was sewn in Moldova from designer Julia Allert’s patterns. Her brand Julia Allert is called bold, unconventional and uncompromising.

“If I could do it, so can anyone else,” laughs Julia Allert. She launched her fashion brand during the COVID-19 pandemic, using “a crazy idea, two sewing machines and two seamstresses” in a small workshop in the Moldovan capital.

Just a few years later, her business began to flourish. “We sell 17,000 pieces a year,” she says. – Of these, 95 percent are exported to more than 50 countries.”

Iulia Allert believes Moldovan fashion is unique. “We are incomparable,” she says. This uniqueness is the result of a mix of influences from the East, West and even Asia, due to Moldova’s proximity to Turkey. “We see the world in these colors.”

In recent years, more and more Moldovan designers have been appearing on the international fashion market. It seems that Moldova has been waiting for a long time for an opportunity to show the world what it can do, while it was sewing on tolls clothes and shoes for Moncler, Emporio Armani, Max Mara, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Luisa Spagnoli and other world brands. And now “the process is underway”.

Bella Hadid, the famous American model of Palestinian origin who is an ambassador for the fashion houses Bulgari and Dior, recently appeared in massive black boots by Moldovan brand Fidan Novruzova.

Then another American model, Kendall Nicole Jenner, a contestant on the television reality show “The Kardashian Family,” was spotted wearing this brand’s shoes. And some fashion editors from different world publications.

Fidan Novruzova is first of all a clothing designer. She launched an experimental shoe line together with Trenwood, a handmade leather goods workshop in Kishinev, as a supplement to her main clothing line. But the shoes “shot” stronger and faster: the pilot batch of the iconic boots with an aggressive square toe and gradient effect was sold out in just a few days in the Ssense online store.

Fidan was born in Kishinev to an Azerbaijani family. After becoming more or less independent, she moved to London to study fashion design at the cult school Central Saint Martins. After graduation, she interned at two very different in style and mood British brands: Burberry and Simone Rocha. And then she returned to her native Moldova to build her own brand.

Alina Bradu, Diana Voevutski, Valentin Frunze, Valentina Vidrascu, and many others are already well known in the West.

In Moldova itself, practically all pop stars, politicians and other celebrities have locally produced clothes in their closet.

Angela Baranecchi, the owner of Cosânzeana store of Moldovan brands, states this with certainty.

“I notice that very many politicians wear Passer shirts,” she told Logos Press. – This company has the latest equipment, they use the right molds and quality fabrics, and their clothes are easy to care for. There are models for both men and women. Sometimes I see our parliamentarians wearing suits from Ionel. As for women, they prefer to dress in small companies that provide individual fitting. I look – the fit is perfect, and I realize that a lady with a complex figure is wearing a dress or a suit made and fitted in Moldova”.

There are more than 300 enterprises of light industry in Moldova.
