In total, 311,600 metric tons of corn were exported from the country between January and July 2026. This is twice as much as during the same period last year. Experts attribute this year’s increase in shipments to a higher harvest and, consequently, a larger supply of marketable corn for export. At the same time, a significant portion of the marketable supply of corn from the 2025 harvest did not enter commercial circulation until the second half of the marketing season—in the spring and summer of 2026.
Nevertheless, experts assess corn exports during the analyzed period of the current year as slightly above average. For comparison, in January–July 2022, Moldova’s corn exports accounted for 74%.
Corn Exports from Moldova
Lebanon was the leading foreign buyer of Moldovan corn in July (12,500 metric tons, average price: 4.44 lei/kg). Surprisingly, Ukraine ranked second on the list of buyers of Moldovan corn (4,200 metric tons, 4.45 lei/kg). The other major importers of Moldovan corn are the usual suspects: Turkey (3,700 metric tons, 3.98 lei/kg) and Romania (900 metric tons, 3.94 lei/kg).
It is particularly interesting that, unlike other agricultural crops, corn from Moldova was exported last month primarily by rail rather than by water.
