It is important to ensure competitive shipping rates and additional routes for Ukrainian cargo through Moldova to the Romanian port of Constanța. This was stated by Ukraine’s Minister of Reconstruction, Infrastructure, and Transport Mykola Kalashnyk following a meeting with Moldova’s Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea, according to UNN.

“We are turning our agreements with Moldova into concrete solutions… We held a working meeting in the Odesa region with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Moldova Vladimir Bolea,” Kalashnik said.

According to him, “our priority is unimpeded traffic from Odesa to the Danube region.”

“To achieve this, we must ensure free and safe transit along a 7-kilometer section of the M-15 highway near Palanka. We are also preparing to open a new joint border crossing point,” Kalashnik added.

As a result of Russian strikes on Ukraine’s railway infrastructure, more than 200 Ukrzaliznytsia locomotives were damaged or destroyed in the first half of 2026 alone. The Ukrainian government estimates that total losses of traction rolling stock since the start of the full-scale conflict number in the hundreds.
