According to the lawmaker, FlyOne plays an important role in the air travel market, including by operating the route to Yerevan, which is of great significance to the Armenian community, as well as to many citizens of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.
Vartanyan reported that he had discussed the situation with representatives of Armenia’s ruling party and asked them to closely monitor developments, given FlyOne’s significant investments in the market and the large number of routes it serves.
At the same time, the MP emphasized that he advocates for a level playing field for all participants in the aviation market. He noted that the entry of the new company, Polaris Group, into the market is a normal process and wished it success; however, government agencies should not grant advantages to one operator at the expense of another.
“I don’t care who is behind a particular company. What matters is that everyone competes on equal terms, and that government agencies do not give one operator an advantage at the expense of another. The authorities must closely monitor this situation. Healthy competition means more opportunities and better services for citizens, not eliminating one company to make room for another,” Vartanean stated.
As a reminder, in May of this year, the Moldovan Prosecutor’s Office conducted searches at the Chisinau office of FlyOne as part of an investigation into possible tax evasion and money laundering. The investigation also involved a construction company and entities associated with airport operations.
FlyOne was founded in 2015 and is one of Moldova’s largest airlines, also operating in the Romanian market. The company had previously attracted attention due to its founders’ ties to Moldovan political circles: Maria Cebotari, the wife of former Minister of Justice Vladimir Cebotari, was mentioned among the founders.
