At the moment, the problem lies in the near-total blockage of external shipments of agricultural products through the ports of Greater Odessa. According to latifundist, two possible scenarios for alleviating the logistics crisis were discussed at a meeting between the president and the leadership of military agencies and civilian ministries.
The first option involves shipowners or the ships’ “flag states” notifying Ukraine and Russia of the ships’ arrival or departure, after which the parties to the conflict would presumably have to refrain from attacking these vessels. The second option involves the parties to the conflict establishing “ceasefire windows” lasting two to three days, during which relatively peaceful shipping operations could resume. However, Ukraine’s Minister of Agrarian Policy, Taras Vysotsky, noted in comments to the aforementioned publication that no agreements on this matter have been reached yet.
Apparently, they could become part of a broader ceasefire agreement within the context of a new peace plan developed by the U.S. and Ukraine and announced (without details) by Ukraine’s major media outlets. However, the Russian side (to the proposed peace agreement) stated that it is unaware of the existence of a new plan. And Putin has effectively rejected Tokayev’s mediation efforts regarding a ceasefire.
Alternative Export Routes for Ukrainian Grain: Moldova Should Prepare
In this situation, the most realistic option for defusing the crisis appears to be the Ukrainian president’s statement that “the prime minister and the entire government team will work to maximize the diversification of export and import operations.”
“The challenges are very significant. Asymmetric solutions are also needed. Securing fuel for the Ukrainian market, additional export routes, necessary support programs for Ukrainian producers, as well as working with our partners, neighboring countries in the region, and Brussels. All of this is already underway,” ukragroconsult quotes Zelenskyy as saying.
He emphasized that Ukraine is counting on understanding from its partners.
