Donald Trump
Trump’s live address took place on the night of Friday, July 17. The recording was posted on the White House’s YouTube channel, according to postimees.ee.
“For several years, starting with the 2020 election campaign, the People’s Republic of China has been carrying out an operation that is believed to be the largest election data leak in history,” Trump said.
According to him, the Chinese authorities obtained the names, addresses, phone numbers, party affiliations, and other information about American voters. Trump noted that this data was purchased, stolen, or obtained through hacking.
Speaking about the flaws in the electoral system, Trump also stated that in four states, approximately 278,000 people who were not U.S. citizens were registered to vote.
Trump: China tampered with votes and paid American journalists for negative articles about me
Separately, Trump noted that China allegedly used data it had obtained on American voters to influence, among other things, the 2020 presidential election, in which he lost to Democrat Joe Biden.
According to the U.S. leader, China attempted to ensure his defeat in the last election by, among other things, tampering with actual votes and bribing journalists who wrote negatively about him. The president stated that China “paid huge sums of money” to generate even more negative coverage about him.
The U.S. leader claims that China tried to ensure his defeat in the election, in particular, because he intended to impose multibillion-dollar tariffs on the country and build the world’s strongest military. At the same time, Trump noted that not only China but also other adversaries of the United States—including Russia, Iran, North Korea, and certain non-state groups—could exploit vulnerabilities in the U.S. electoral system.
Trump Accused the “Deep State” of Concealing Information
Trump accused representatives of the “deep state” within U.S. intelligence agencies of concealing the information he had disclosed, actively suppressing and downplaying data on the scale of China’s sinister interference in the election, hiding it from both the president and the American people.
“Today, I am calling on the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Department of Justice, the FBI, and the CIA to investigate how and why such critical information was concealed; to dismiss those involved in its concealment, and—where warranted—to bring criminal charges against those responsible,” Trump said.
