Sergey Koretsky
Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk announced the nomination. According to RBC-Ukraine, the vote on the new head of government could take place on July 16.
Koretsky took the helm of Naftogaz of Ukraine in April 2025, and prior to that, he headed the country’s largest oil companies—Ukrnafta and UkrTatNafta. The ruling Servant of the People party calls him one of the strongest managers in the energy sector. The head of the parliamentary faction, David Arakhamia, stated that Koretsky’s experience is particularly in demand now, as Ukraine prepares for the upcoming heating season amid the ongoing threat of attacks on its energy infrastructure.
According to “Ukrainska Pravda,” Zelenskyy has been observing Koretsky’s work for several years and considers him one of the most promising leaders for a transition into higher-level politics. The Financial Times previously reported that the president had decided to reshuffle the government leadership, as he hopes to strengthen management of the energy sector ahead of winter.
It should be noted that Zelenskyy announced the reshuffling of the Cabinet of Ministers on July 12, reporting the resignation of the government headed by Yulia Sviridenko. The president explained the personnel changes as part of a new model for the executive branch, under which each priority area of state policy must be overseen by a leader with relevant experience.
