Activities to conduct the first comprehensive survey of the agricultural sector will take place as early as this year. The 2030 General Agricultural Census (GAC) will therefore be conducted in accordance with the updated standards.
The AGC will make it possible not only to assess quantitative characteristics but also to conduct a reliable analysis of Moldova’s agri-food exports and its level of food self-sufficiency. A comparison of actual data on agricultural production and foreign trade will form the basis for the country’s agricultural policy.
A comprehensive picture of the balance between agricultural production and export potential, as well as the country’s food self-sufficiency, will become possible thanks to “the integration of various sources of statistical and administrative data to form a comprehensive picture of the agri-food balance, and the analysis of the main groups of agricultural and agri-food products.”
This is how Oleg Kara, Director General of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), described the agency’s statistical capabilities at the 10th International Conference on Agricultural Statistics (ICAS X), which took place in Kraków, Poland, from July 8 to 10.
The event was organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in partnership with the World Bank, Eurostat, and the Statistical Office of Poland.
New approaches to conducting agricultural censuses and studying the structure of agricultural holdings will be incorporated into the national practices of the official statistical system, harmonized with the requirements of Eurostat, the FAO Statistics Division, and the World Bank, all of which have pledged to assist the National Bureau of Statistics in utilizing new technologies and data collection methods.
