“Given the circumstances surrounding the resignation of former Prime Minister A. Munteanu—which resulted from a high-profile scandal involving corruption linked to a relative of the president— as well as a series of revelations exposing numerous abuses and lawlessness by the authorities, we consider it impossible to engage in any discussion with the primary cause of the ongoing chaos in the country—M. Sandu. Following the revelations of unprecedented abuses, the only correct and moral course of action for the president would be to resign,” reads the PCRM’s statement.
Responding to questions from journalists, the party’s honorary chairman, Vladimir Voronin, stated that he does not see anyone on the PAS team “who could become prime minister and who would be up to the task.”
Earlier, the MAN party also announced its refusal to participate in consultations at the presidential administration. Members of the Socialist Party of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) faction also publicly stated that they would not participate in the consultations.
The Democrația Acasă party faction stated that it would go to negotiations with the president, but “not for consultations, but to see if someone will finally answer citizens’ questions.”
On the morning of Friday, July 9, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, officially invited the parliamentary factions to consultations on the nomination of a candidate for the office of prime minister following the resignation of Alexandru Munteanu’s government.
