In the first half of this year, about 45 thousand planting units of rape seeds were imported to Moldova and sold to farmers, enough to sow 130-135 thousand hectares, Logos Press reports.

In Moldova, the rape harvest will be completed next week. By the end of the harvesting campaign, preliminary estimates of the production of this crop have increased, while the domestic and foreign trade context has changed significantly. Is it for the better? It is an open question.

The introduction of a 10% duty on rapeseed exports by the Ukrainian authorities from August 1, 2025 may affect trade in this commodity in Moldova, – reports Logos Press with reference to the opinion of operators of the Moldovan market of oilseed raw materials.

The campaign of harvesting of grain and oilseed crops of the first group is unfolding in Moldova. It is too early to judge about its results “in hectares and tons”. However, some market trends are already clearly visible.

Wholesale buyers in RM have indicated a starting level of “demand prices” for rapeseed for the 2025 crop – in the neighborhood of $500 per ton,” Logos Press reported.

At the end of June 2025, the price of food wheat and barley on Moldova’s grain market is stagnating at a relatively low level,” Loogos Press reports.

Rapeseed is the first money earned by farmers in the season. A lot depends on this earnings: the ability to pay off debts in time, finance the harvesting of second-group crops, purchase resources for sowing winter crops. And the main thing is that farmers’ mood and attitude for the nearest future depends on the first money. What will it be like in Moldova?

At present, sunflower and, partly, rapeseed act as “key revenue drivers” for RM farmers, but experts recommend paying more attention to “niche” crops,” Logos Press reports.

Last week, August rapeseed futures on the French futures market MATIF (part of the international European exchange Euronext) rose by 1.7% and jumped over the symbolic 500 euros/t mark,” Logos Press reported.
