Further EU enlargement will never happen, and Brussels’ promises to admit new members are akin to science fiction, according to Logos Press.

This is how Moldova’s political fate may change unexpectedly, judging by recent events. The European Union is ready to compromise the principles of full membership in favor of a geopolitical choice. This was stated by European Commissioner Marta Kos in an interview with Euronews after her report at the EU Enlargement Forum organized by the European Commission this week.

Romanian President Nicusor Dan said Friday that the European Union’s enlargement to Moldova, Ukraine and the Western Balkans is not an “act of charity” but an investment in security, Logos Press reported.

“Moldova is becoming a platform for growth, a center of digital innovation, a reliable partner in the single market and a future member state of the European Union,” Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu said at the EU Enlargement Forum in Brussels on November 18, Logos Press reported.

The European Commission promised Moldova even more money after the already promised 1.9 billion euros, if the country uses these funds efficiently, Logos Press reports.

The accession of new countries to the euro bloc risks exacerbating the shortage of skilled professionals in the new member states, intensifying the process of “brain drain”, Logos Press reported, citing Euronews.

Further enlargement of the European Union is supported by 56% of the European countries’ respondents, but only 48% of respondents have a favorable attitude to Moldova’s accession to the EU, – reports Logos Press.
