The Ministry of Finance has prepared a simplified version of the state budget for 2026, which sets out the main parameters of the financial document in an accessible form, including on socially important issues of the direction of funds, reports Logos Press.

The Chisinau City Hall announced the launch of the 2026 Civic Budget program, in which residents of the capital can submit proposals for projects according to the needs and priorities of the districts in which they live, Logos Press reported.

Councillors of the capital’s municipal council have not yet started considering the budget for the current year, which creates a ridiculous situation – Chisinau continues to live under the 2024 budget, Logos Press reported.

State higher education institutions operating under financial autonomy and subordinated to the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Culture will receive a total of 1.1 billion lei from the state budget in 2026. This is about 108 million lei more than in 2025.

The state social insurance budget for 2025 was executed with a surplus of 122.8 million lei, with revenues amounting to 49.2 billion lei (49202.4 million lei) or 99.6% of the annual plan, Logos Press reported.

The state funding budget for research and innovation in 2026 increased by MDL 47 million to MDL 558 million.

The budget for the culture sector in 2026 will exceed 1 billion lei. This was announced by Culture Minister Cristian Jardan during his first press conference dedicated to the National Culture Day.

Moldova’s state budget for 2026 includes large external revenues, including from the EU, although the exact figures will be known ex post facto, Logos Press reported.

In 2026, the State Chancellery of the Republic of Moldova will receive 943.5 million lei from the state budget, which is almost 60% more than at the beginning of last year, Logos Press reported.

Although the drafts “On Approval and Enactment of Local Taxes for 2026” and “On Approval of the Chisinau Municipality Budget for 2026” received a positive opinion from the specialized economic commission of the Municipal Council, they were not considered by the councillors due to political disagreements, Logos Press reported.

Moldova’s total state budget revenues for the eleven months of 2025 amounted to just over 68.8 billion lei, up 14.4% (about 8.65 billion lei) compared to the same period of 2024, Logos Press reported.

There is a paradoxical situation in the municipal council. Since December 3, attempts have been made to hold a meeting, but it cannot not only take place, but even close due to the lack of quorum. Therefore, the meeting is constantly postponed. Even more paradoxical is the fact that about a month has passed since the last, ninth attempt to approve the municipality’s budget for 2025. But neither it, nor the budget for the next year 2026 is discussed in the council today.
