At the end of the competition two bronze medals were brought to the national team by Alexandrina Ciubotaru (weight category up to 76 kg) and Alexandru Balgi (up to 73 kg; see results in the table). Both athletes represented the youth national team (under 20 years old) at the World Championships.

Three gold medals (big and two small) out of four were won by 17-year-old Danu Secrieru. He competed for both youth and junior national teams of Moldova. Showing the same results as at the U-17 Championship, in the U-20 competition he was unable to compete with his older rivals and was not among the medalists. Dan Betka, who was also represented on both national teams, won a major silver, minor gold and minor bronze medal in the U-17 tournament. At the U-20 World Championships, he did not finish in the top ten.

The U-17 and U-20 World Weightlifting Championships were held in the Peruvian capital from April 30 to May 5. 257 weightlifters took part in the junior championships, 354 in the youth championships. Some athletes under the age of 17 competed in both tournaments.
