
In April 2026, the average gross salary in the country was 9,740 RON (about $2,265), while the average net salary was 5,843 RON (about $1,360), up 3.5% from a year earlier.
The highest incomes continue to be recorded in Bucharest—over 7,600 RON (about $1,770) per month, according to Economedia.ro. Next are Timiș and Cluj counties, where the average net salary exceeds 6,700 RON (about $1,560), followed by Sibiu—more than 6,400 RON (about $1,490).
Residents of the counties of Giurgiu, Suceava, Vrancea, Vaslui, Botoșani, and Teleorman earn the lowest salaries. There, the average net income is just over 4,100 RON (about $950) per month. This is 3,500 RON (about $815) less than in the capital.
Among economic sectors, the highest salaries remain in the oil and natural gas extraction sector—more than 15,400 RON (about $3,580) per month. The IT sector ranks second, with an average net salary of over 14,200 RON (about $3,300). The lowest-paying sectors remain aquaculture, social services, and the hotel and restaurant industry.
