
In particular, the forecast of wheat production in the European Union was reduced by 400 thousand tons – to 126.9 million tons. For comparison, in the previous season the EU countries harvested about 135 million tons of wheat. At the same time, the forecast of wheat exports remained unchanged – 29.65 million tons. Also, the European Commission revised downward the forecast of corn and barley production. Corn harvest in the new season is estimated at 60.35 million tons (against 61.2 million tons in the previous forecast). Barley production is expected at 51.75 million tons (52.9 million tons in 2025).
In contrast to cereals, forecasts for oilseeds have been slightly improved. The rapeseed crop for the 2026/27 season is expected to be 20.85 million tons, up from the previous estimate (20.8 million tons) and higher than the 2025/26 season result of 20.2 million tons.
The sunflower production forecast is also raised to 8.9 million tons, up from 8.8 million tons in the April forecast. For comparison, in the 2025/26 season the sunflower crop was estimated at 8.7 million tons.
On the eve of the European Crop Monitoring Service MARS also worsened estimates of yields of most crops due to dry weather conditions in some regions of the European Union.
