This was stated by Jotaro Tamura, head of the Japanese logistics company Mitsui OSK Lines, as reported by the Financial Times (FT).
He noted that during the most recent ceasefire, foreign vessels had repeatedly been targeted by the Iranian military. Against this backdrop, shipowners want to be absolutely certain that the preliminary agreement reached earlier this week will actually take effect and be observed by both sides of the conflict, Tamura stated.
Given this, a full resumption of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz could take at least two weeks. In the worst-case scenario, it could take a month, the company’s head noted. “Operations will not resume until sufficient security is ensured,” Tamura concluded.
