According to the authorities, this stage is necessary to harmonize Moldova’s trade and investment policy with the EU legislation and common trade policy. The process should be carried out gradually and in coordination with external partners and the business environment, in order to ensure the continuity of trade and economic relations and protect the country’s economic interests.
The participants in the event “European Integration and Trade Policy: Opportunities and Challenges for Moldova’s Economy”, organized by the Economic Development and Digitalization Ministry, said this.
State Secretary Cristina Ceban said that joining the European Union is not just a political goal, but also a deep transformation of the national economy. “The revision and harmonization of Moldova’s international economic agreements represent a necessary and important stage in the European integration process. It is crucial to assess their compatibility with the European Union’s legislation and common trade policy,” the official said.
Within the event, the participants in the event presented studies carried out by international experts on the impact of the EU accession on Moldova’s exports, import structure and trade policy. The ways of harmonizing the investment agreements with the European standards were also analyzed.
The discussions were attended by representatives of state institutions, business environment and international experts, including specialists previously involved in the process of Croatia’s accession to the European Union. They shared their experiences and best practices in adapting trade and investment policies in the pre-integration period.
