While the technical infrastructure remains operational for the most part, only a tightly monitored internal network is available to residents of Iran, with connectivity levels at 1 percent, according to NetBlocks, an international monitoring service.

According to the organization, almost the entire civilian population is deprived of communication with the outside world. In the meantime, however, the Iranian authorities are promoting their information agenda and political narratives quite effectively through whitelisted networks, as well as media assets inside the country and foreign media, according to some authoritative communications experts.

For example, stories about acid rain in Tehran after the bombings were broadcast by CNN.
