In Poland, the pensions of foreigners are many times lower than those of Polish citizens. Why?

The average pension of a foreigner in Poland is only 1,200 PLN per month (283 euros). This is significantly lower than the national average pension of Poles, which is about PLN 4,000 (EUR 945).

Economists explain that foreigners have been massively present on the Polish labor market for a maximum of 11-12 years (active attraction started after 2014). They simply do not have a long insurance history in Poland, their contributions have not had time to accumulate and undergo multi-year indexation, like local citizens who have worked here all their lives.

The number of foreigners insured in the ZUS fund increased from 293,200 in 2016 to 1,288,800 by the end of 2025. This is more than a fourfold increase. Moreover, in the last 12 months alone, the number of legal foreign workers has increased by 8%, writes “Dzic Pic. Frankly about Polish”.
