“Food inflation” has gone down.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, retail prices for fruits (- 6.5%), vegetables (- 2.3%) and sugar (- 0.8%) decreased the most on the Moldovan food market. At the same time, the price of chicken eggs went up by 11% on average.

Commenting on the situation, experts of the sectoral organizations of agricultural producers explained the reduction in retail prices for fruit and vegetable products by the seasonal factor (higher supply and competition). Sugar became cheaper due to its import, especially from Serbia. The process of egg price rise is due to its active export.

At the same time, in annualized terms, compared to the price level in August 2024, food prices in Moldova increased on average by 8.5%
