This is evidenced by the statistics World Population Review of April 9, 2026.
That is, the country’s population is decreasing by 46 people every day, or almost 2 people per hour.
According to the resource’s calculations, Moldova’s population reached its maximum in 1990. Then 4.5 million people lived in the country. Then its number began to decline, and on January 1, 2026 it decreased by exactly one third – to 3 million.
The prospects do not inspire joy. According to forecasts, the process will continue. In 2030 Moldova will have 2.8 million inhabitants, in 2040 – 2.6 million, in 2050 – 2.4 million, and by 2096 the country will be left with a population of 1.5 million people.
