The information of the State Agency for Intellectual Property (AGEPI) notes that the draft law was approved by the government on April 1, 2026 and adopted in first reading by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova on April 24, 2026.
In this context, an expert from Poland, Dariusz Goszczynski, specialized in the protection of geographical indications, visited AGEPI from May 4 to 8, 2026, with the support of the Moldovan-Swiss project Swiss PartnershIP Moldova.
During the mission, the European expert held a series of working meetings and technical consultations with representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) and the National Accreditation Center of the Republic of Moldova (MOLDAC).
Discussions focused on the mechanisms needed to implement the new legislation, strengthen institutional cooperation, identify administrative and technical needs, and implement European best practices in the field of geographical indications.
Geographical indications represent an important tool for promoting local products with added value, contributing to the development of the local economy, protecting traditional heritage and increasing the competitiveness of Moldovan products on national and international markets, AGEPI said.
