Asked on public radio about the seriousness of the “Plan B” scenario of unification with Romania, Herman said there is “no context” in that sense right now.
“Our goal as a country and the conscious, repeatedly confirmed choice of the majority of citizens was Moldova’s accession to the European Union. As long as there is the will and the possibility to move in this direction, we will continue. Discussing another plan means that we recognize that we have already failed with the European Union. On the other hand, we are seeing increasingly encouraging responses from EU member states… So I don’t see any context to discuss other plans right now.”
Thus, the PAS deputy believes that Moldova should remain focused and concentrated on one “battle” – the “battle for EU integration”.
“We have to listen to citizens: there is a majority supporting European integration, now for a possible reunification there is not a majority of supporters among citizens. Therefore, as politicians, we simply have to listen to their voice.”
Earlier, both President Maia Sandu and later Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmokescu announced a possible “plan B” – unification with Romania in case European Union accession fails.
